Uncertainty brews over upcoming ANC elective conferences in Limpopo

There is uncertainty on whether the African National Congress (ANC) regional elective conferences scheduled to get underway this weekend in Limpopo will go ahead.

The party’s Vhembe and Mopani regions are scheduled to elect regional leaders on Saturday and Sunday in Thohoyandou and Giyani respectively.

The pre-registration process of the Vhembe region was halted yesterday due to allegations of manipulation of the process.

ANC provincial spokesperson, Jimmy Machaka, says no conference will take place until all disputes have been resolved.

“The only dispute that has potential to stall these regional conferences is the outstanding dispute which is presently being processed by the provincial dispute resolution committee. In the event the provincial dispute resolution committee conclude its work it is expected that over the weekend the regional conference will proceed as schedule unless if there are any matters that are referred to appeals therefore there will be no any conference up until all disputes are resolved.”

Sekhukhune region

Last week, the party held its regional elective conference in the Sekhukhune District.

Limpopo ANC Convenor in the district, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, said the party has received the green light from its legal team to continue with the regional elective conference.

This after some disgruntled ANC members had obtained an interdict at the Sekhukhune Regional Court to stop the conference.

Members had cited concerns that delegates from their branches were not allowed to be part of the conference.
