Umalusi to no longer moderate NCV exams or issue certificates

Education quality watchdog, Umalusi CEO Dr. Mafu Rakometsi, says the council will no longer oversee the quality assurance of the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) exams nor issue certificates to successful candidates.

Umalusi hosted a media briefing today confirming their readiness for the 2025 end-of-year national exams starting next week, 20 October.

However, Rakometsi confirms that Umalusi will continue to assure quality for Level 4 qualifications.

The council says public and private assessment bodies including the Departments of Basic and Higher Education, the Independent Examinations Board, and SACAI are all ready to to administer the National Senior Certificate and other qualifications.

“The assessment body must ensure the implementation of three levels of moderation for SBA: School level, Cluster level, and Assessment body level. We urge the DBE to speedily finalise the guidelines so that, as a system, we are able – a, to establish the national requirements for the registration of online schools by Provincial Education Departments (PEDs), and b, to indicate the requirements to be met for online schools to be accredited by Umalusi, amongst others,” says Rakometsi.
