Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos and his technical team.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) Deputy president Nqabayomzi Kwankwa says they want the Human Rights Commission to hold Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos and SAFA accountable for the coach’s remarks.
These were against Orlando Pirates player Mbekezeli Mbokazi and his agent Basia Michaels.
This follows Mbokazi’s late arrival at Bafana Bafana’s training camp due to a missed flight from Durban.
In reference to Mbokazi’s late arrival, a clearly agitated Broos said, “He is currently a Black man, but he will come out white after I have met with him.”
Kwankwa says Broos made racist remarks against Mbokazi and disrespected Michaels by referring to her as “That little woman who thinks she knows football.”
He said these remarks demean the dignity of the individuals concerned.
“The basis of our complaint centres around the utterances that were made by coach Hugo Broos’s press conference, where he referred to matters of colour for an example, saying there’s a black guy, he will make him white and then he referred to the agent of Mbokazi as a little girl who knows nothing about football. The statement was incredibly sexist but it also undermines her profession. No one is above the law here in South Africa. So, we want the human rights commission to investigate our complaint, looking to the evidence that is available at everyone’s disposal and get SAFA and Hugo Broos to account for what he did”.
