Two- year-old girl Kamogelo Nthakong who died in a shack fire last year in Nellmapius East in Pretoria, has been laid to rest.
According to reports, her mother had returned from fetching water to find their home engulfed in flames.
However, the family underwent DNA testing in March but struggled to afford burial costs.
Civic organizations, community members and business owners rallied together to support the family, enabling them to give Kamogelo a proper farewell.
Bongani Ramontja, leader of the Soil of Africa civic movement organization, says it was a difficult journey because they had to fight for the DNA test.
“After the DNA test coming out, we had to go look for funders and sponsors to assist us in burying our beloved daughter. So at least we got people that are very loyal to help black people. So, Soil of Africa made sure that we get the casket and we pay for the burial hole and also to make sure that there is the tombstone for the child. We also organized counselling for the family.”
