Two suspects to appear in court in connection police sergeant’s death


Two suspects are expected to appear in the Christiana Magistrate’s Court in the North West on Monday after they allegedly stabbed to death a police sergeant at a local tavern.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, says the 47-year-old police official was involved in a verbal altercation with two other men when one stabbed him with a sharp object.

He was taken to a local clinic where he was declared dead on arrival.

“Police immediately activated the 72-hour activation plan to trace the suspects. A 46-year-old suspect was arrested on Saturday night after surrendering himself to the Christiana police. A second suspect, aged 32, was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning in Christiana. The matter will be investigated by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).”
