Two suspected blue light robbers have been killed in a shootout with the police in Parys in the Free State. Police say that during the officers’ high-speed chase, the suspects’ vehicle lost control and crashed into a fence.
They found the deceased dressed in a police uniform. Officers recovered items, including two unlicensed firearms with ammunition, a police uniform and blue lights.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says, “It is reported that a team of various police units in Gauteng, including, Tactical Response Team, Traffic Airwing, Detectives Tracking Team, Head Office Counter-intelligence and private security companies, operationalised intelligence information about a VW Golf 7 vehicle involved in blue light robberies.
The team strategically placed themselves and the vehicle was spotted driving on the R59 Road fitted with blue lights. As police attempted to stop it, the vehicle sped off, leading to a high-speed chase and a shootout between the suspects and the police.”
