Two stray lions have been spotted in the veld in Plange-Mtititi village on the northern side of the Kruger National Park (KNP) in Limpopo.

The lions are believed to have escaped from the Park, as it borders the village.

Community Spokesperson Isaac Khosa says the rangers were called but could not trace the animals.

Environmental affairs authorities are yet to comment.

Khosa is calling on the communities and livestock farmers to remain alert.

He says, “The lions were spotted at the bushes where animals, usually cattle, are grazing at places close to Kruger National Park’s Shangoni gate. Authorities dealing with wild animals were alerted and came to search, but couldn’t get anything; we are alerting our community members to be on high alert.”
