Two security officers shot dead during ambush in Lawley, Johannesburg

Two separate violent crimes in Gauteng have left security officers dead and millions of rands stolen.

In Lawley, south of Johannesburg, two security officers were shot and killed while escorting a bakery truck in what was described as an ambush.

In a separate incident in Hurleyvale, Edenvale, armed suspects reportedly robbed a victim of approximately R2.1 million in cash.

Both incidents were reported within hours of each other this afternoon.

According to a report received by private security company Suburban Control Centre, the suspects in the Edenvale robbery were armed with AK-47 rifles and fled the scene in a white Hyundai vehicle with a cloned numberplate.

The fatal shooting in Lawley highlights the dangers faced by security personnel during escort operations.

Both incidents reflect a growing concern over violent crime targeting both individuals and high-value transport.

No arrests have been reported at this stage.
