Police say two suspects have been arrested in Delmas, Mpumalanga, after locals went on a rampage, allegedly torching two spaza shops owned by foreign nationals.
It is alleged that the violence erupted after the community learned about the death of a six-year-old child who had allegedly consumed contaminated biscuits from a local foreign-owned spaza shop this week.
Police Spokesperson Magonseni Nkosi says, “The provincial commissioner has also beefed up police personnel within the area to monitor the situation. Currently, the situation is under control and two suspects aged 30 have been arrested and are expected to appear in Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Monday.”
