Two of five traffic wardens shot in Daveyton are critical: Lesufi

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says two out of the five traffic wardens who were shot in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, on Sunday, are in critical condition.

He says one of the wardens remains unconscious in an intensive care unit (ICU) while the other has regained consciousness but remains in ICU.

The wardens came under fire at the Daveyton Railway Station on Sunday when they attempted to search 12 people during a routine patrol.

Lesufi briefed the media after visiting the wardens stating that one is seriously critical in intensive care.

“The other one is also in the intensive care unit, at least she’s conscious. I managed to exchange some greeting with her and to indicate our support to her. The other two, I think they are recovering very well. I think they will be discharged soon but the doctors are still giving them the necessary support. The driver was discharged but he still has a bullet lodged in his shoulder. I think the medical teams has advised him to take it easy and that they will call him at the right moment,” says Lesufi.
