Former DA chief whip in Umngeni Muncipality, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu.
Two more suspects have been arrested by the Political Killings Task Team in connection with murder of Nhlalayenza Ndlovu who was the DA Chief Whip in the Umngeni Muncipality.
Ndlovu was gunned down at his home in Mpophomeni near Howick in KwaZulu-Natal in December 2023.
This brings the number of arrested suspects to five.
The other three are Thobani Hlongwa, Khayelihle Shabalala and Zwelithini Buthelezi, who is an induna at the Nxamalala Tribal Authority.
The three are expected to appear again in the Howick Magistrate’s Court tomorrow .
Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says that they’ve made the arrest and all the accused will appear in court tomorrow.
“Two additional suspects have been arrested today which include a 56-year-old Chief and a 26-year-old suspect who coordinated the murder of the councillor whilst in Pietermaritzburg Prison. The pair will appear before the Howick Magistrates’ Court tomorrow. They will join suspects who were previously arrested and charged for the murder. They will be facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The DA councillor was attached to the Umgeni Local Municipality at the time of his murder,” says Mathe.
