The Western Cape High Court has sentenced four men to life in prison for the murder of two law enforcement officers in 2019. The officers were on duty in the Samora Machel informal settlement when they were gunned down by Ashwin Kennedy, Ndumiso Lutshetu, Bongani Mvamveki and Siyabonga Witbooi and robbed of their firearms.
Police spokesperson, Anelisiwe Manyana, says the convicts were sentenced to two life terms each and an additional 15 years for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
“The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile said that this verdict serves as a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice and underscores our commitment to protecting those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding our communities,” says Manyana.
