Two men accused of murdering underworld boss, Mark Lifman, have been denied bail in the George Magistrate’s Court in the Western Cape.

The two, 37 and 53-year-old men are accused of shooting Lifman down in the parking lot of the Garden Route Mall on 3 November last year.

They were arrested near Uniondale a few hours later.

Lifman was due to appear in the Cape Town High Court on the 4th of November for the murder of Brian Wainstein.

He was the main accused after the so-called Steroid King was shot at his home in Constantia in August 2017. While out on bail, he travelled to George for a weekend away with his friends, to play golf at Fancourt. It is believed he had a meeting scheduled with an unknown person at the Garden Route Mall on Sunday, 3 November.

While leaving the mall, on his way to his vehicle, he was shot five times.

A VW Polo sped away from the scene, and was later tracked to the N9, heading towards Uniondale. The two accused were arrested and charged with premeditated murder.

Following heads of argument for and against bail by the defense and prosecution, Magistrate André Aucamp made the ruling to deny them bail. He said it would not be in the interest of justice to release them.

The case has been postponed to 20 February for further investigation.
