Two Kuruman men sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a girl


The Mothibistad Regional Court sitting in Kuruman in the Northern Cape has sentenced two men to 20 years each for the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl.

During the trial, the court heard that, on 21 April 2019, the two accused, aged 32 and 37, had repeatedly raped a minor in Dithakong village.

She has described how the incident has affected her trust of people, as she had previously regarded the convicted men men to be her friends .

The provincial NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane says the Mothibastad Regional Court sentenced Obakeng Nkatlholang and Bonolo Ntumeleng to 20 years of direct imprisonment each.

“The court rejected the accused claims that the sexual encounter was consensual after the DNA evidence linked them to the crime.”
