Two boys have drowned in Phalala River at Ga-Seleka outside Lephalale, Limpopo. A group of boys were swimming when the other two drowned.

A local councillor Mohau Mjakula says the community members managed to retrieve one body before the police divers arrived at the scene. The second drowning victim is still missing.

Police have promised to give details later. Mjakula says the family of the missing drowning victim wants to get the body so they can get closure.

“We’ve experienced the drowning of two boys aged 10. One of the community members finally managed to pull out Jan Monare who’s also 10 years old that’s before the police could get to the scene. We’re still missing Thapelo Maropula who’s also 10. We’re unhappy with how the search was conducted. We’re urging the South African Police Service to bring us more. If we can be skilled with good equipment so that the family can get closure.”
