Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi launched “Tswa Daar” initiative in Ekurhuleni, October 27, 2025.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says if the country neglects the younger generation to be destroyed by drugs, it will have no future.
He was speaking at the launch of “Tswa Daar” in Ekurhuleni, which is an initiative aimed at tackling substance abuse.
The campaign provides mobile medical assessments, treatment and profiling of substance users for job opportunities and skills development.
Lesufi says South Africa cannot allow a generation to be wiped out by substance abuse.
“If you abandon the future, we have no future. These are young people that are going through difficulties. If you allow a generation to be wiped off completely by drugs, if you see all of them, they’ve got potential, they’ve got capabilities, but drugs have taken them over. If we neglect them, ignore them, then when we say there is a future, we’ll be misleading ourselves because we can’t just be happy, because where we are now we are happy when there is a generation that is coming behind us.” – Reporting by Nkhensani Chauke.
