The City of Tshwane has announced planned power outages in areas supplied by the Wapadrand Substation in Pretoria East.
The interruptions are part of construction and upgrade work and will take place in two phases, from tomorrow to the 8th of January and again from the 27th to the 29th of January.
Power will be switched off for six hours daily, between 9 am and 3 pm.
City Spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says the upgrades are aimed at improving the reliability and long-term supply of electricity.
“Areas affected include Silver Lakes, Six Fountains, Equestria, Ferric Land, Lombardy and surrounding areas supplied by the Wapadrand substation. The City apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks the residents and businesses for their patience as these critical upgrades are undertaken,” says Mashigo.

Meanwhile, the City of Tshwane says it has extended operating hours at all licensing centres from 8 am. to 6 pm from today to the 9th of January to ease long queues and clear festive season backlogs.
City Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the move will improve service delivery after the festive season rush put pressure on licensing centres across Tshwane.
“In response, extended operating hours will apply from the 5th to the 9th of January 2026, with centres operating from 8am until 6pm daily. The City thanks residents for their patience and assures the public that officials are working diligently to improve service delivery,” Mashigo says.
