Tshwane says water from Klipdrift Plant should not be consumed

The City of Tshwane has warned Hammanskraal residents receiving water from the newly launched Klipdrift Magalies Water Package Plant, not to consume following complaints of poor quality.

Affected areas include Wards 49, 73, 74, and 75-specifically Mandela Village, Marokolong, Ramotse, Kekana Gardens (Steve Bikoville), and Babelegi Industrial.

The city says a water supply interruption at the Magalies Water-operated plant on the 5th of February, caused by power disruptions, may have impacted water quality.

Mayoral spokesperson Zintle Mahlati says the situation contrasts with laboratory tests from last month, when the water was deemed safe.

The city is working urgently to resolve the issue.

“Immediate steps were taken to flush the system to remove potential contaminants. This process was completed on the 12th of February, and water samples were sent for laboratory analysis. Results are expected on the 14th of February, after which the city will update residents.”
