Tshwane MMC Morodi removed after Madlanga Commission concerns

The MMC for Corporate and Shared Services in the City of Tshwane, Councillor Kholofelo Morodi, has been removed from her position following concerns raised during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Morodi was suspended last week following allegations of tender fraud.

The executive mayor of Tshwane’s decision to remove her comes after an assessment of Morodi’s conduct, including an inappropriate relationship with a municipal official and engaging outside formal governance channels.

Tshwane Mayoral Spokesperson Samkelo Mgobozi says MMC Hannes Coetzee will act in the portfolio until a permanent replacement is appointed.

“Where uncertainty arises that may affect the integrity or effectiveness of the executive, it is necessary to act decisively in the interest of the institution. This decision does not constitute a finding of wrongdoing, nor does it imply any presumption of guilt. It is a measure taken to safeguard the integrity of the institution and to ensure that the processes, including those arising from the commission, proceed in a manner that is fair, lawful, and free from interference. MMC Hannes Coetzee will continue to act in this portfolio to ensure continuity in the functioning of corporate and shared services until such time as a replacement is appointed.”

Meawhile, ActionSA has welcomed the removal of Councillor Kholofelo Morodi as a member of the mayoral committee by Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya.

ActionSA chairperson Michael Beaumont says the party’s Provincial Executive Committee had suspended Morodi pending a disciplinary investigation.

“It is this kind of action from both our mayor and our party to demonstrate that actions lead the way in the fight against corruption. ActionSA apologises unreservedly to the residents of Tshwane for error in judgment even if we had no way of knowing Morodi’s intentions at that time.”
