The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane has raised concerns over the City’s slow response to a major electricity outage, which has now entered its eighth day in some areas.
This is despite assurances from the City that it’s intensified its power restoration efforts.

Just over a week ago, many areas were plunged into darkness following severe weather conditions, which affected the electricity infrastructure.
The areas affected include Brooklyn, Sunnyside, Menlo Park, and Gezina.
DA Tshwane Caucus leader Cilliers Brink says the City of Tshwane does not have enough electricity team and the city’s infrastructure is fragile.
“We know that the city’s infrastructure is fragile, we know that there aren’t enough people in the electricity teams, and there are cash flow problems. There is no crisis response, and so we are concerned that not only is the city in breach of its NERSA license conditions to restore electricity within a specific period of time, but there also doesn’t seem to be urgency on the side of the city.”
