Tshwane City to analyse Hammanskraal discoloured water test results

The City of Tshwane says one area in Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria, is still receiving discoloured water.

City spokesperson Selby Bokaba says officials from the City and Magalies Water are set to have a meeting on Monday to analyse test results on water samples taken from the area.

This comes at the end of the first of four phases to address long-standing water issues in Hammanskraal.

Last year Hammanskraal had a Cholera outbreak that resulted in forty deaths.

Bokaba says the city is confident that 90% of the issues with the water quality have been resolved. But he is still cautioning against drinking the water.

“80% of the water is ready to be consumed, however, there is the 20% where we have taken samples, and that water has been taken for testing. The outcome of the results was that the quality of the water was not safe for consumption. We are cautioning the people to not consume the water until we issue a directive indicating that the water is safe for drinking. Numerous tests are being conducted and as soon as we get the nod from technicians and the scientists indicating that the water is safe for consumption, we will inform the communities of Hammanskraal.”
