The Judicial Inquiry into allegations of attempting to stop the investigations or prosecutions of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Cases will start to unravel crucial concerns on Monday.
They relate to why so few of the 300 cases that the TRC Amnesty Committee referred to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) over two decades ago have been investigated.
Retired Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe is the chairperson of the inquiry.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the inquiry in May this year and it opened its doors on August the first when it held two pre-hearing engagements with stakeholders.
It also issued letters to various state institutions and former presidents requesting all and any documentation related to its work.

Inquiry spokesperson, Lionel Adendorf says that since they don’t have a clear witness list, they’ll just collect evidence based on the evidence that they receive.
“We do not have a clear witness list, we are collecting evidence and it would be based on the evidence that we receive that we would then determine if it necessary for that person to come on to the stand or to testify in person.
“However there is obviously the instance where we have heard the names of, for example, President Mbeki that their names were mentioned in certain cases, Vusi Pikoli, and they are considered interested and affected parties, and we might just decide to call them up.”
