All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF-ASA) says its shutdown will go ahead as planned today, despite ongoing talks with government officials to avert the strike.
The truck drivers have expressed concerns over the employment of foreign nationals as well as challenging working conditions.
They are also unhappy about some employers not adhering to the minimum wage policy.
ATDF-ASA Deputy Secretary-General Sifundiso Beja says, “The planned shutdown is still going ahead today, even though there are some provinces where there are some negotiations with some government officials, but the planned shutdown is still going on today as planned.”
Beja says, “One of the challenges we figured was some of the negotiations we had was with the previous administration, some of the leadership that we have in the various provinces now are new, so the commitments which were made in the sixth administration have not been kept.”
