Three men have been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Durban Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal for attempted murder.
Ndabezinhle Mvune, Simiso Mthimkhulu and Thamsanqa Msabala brutally assaulted the commander of the police‘s air wing in 2021.
KwaZulu-Natal Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says the three were arrested eight months later.
The court heard that Captain Johan Grotius was off-duty when he noticed a suspicious taxi in Amanzimtoti.
He asked the occupants of the taxi if they needed help but after an altercation, he was assaulted with an iron rod.
The court also heard that Grotius was eventually medically boarded after undergoing brain surgery.
