A home where four members from one family were killed during the mass murder in Lusikisiki.
The trial of six men charged with the mass murder of 18 people at Ngobozana in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape is expected to start today.
The suspects are facing 19 murder charges, including a Kwa Bhaca murder, as well as being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The suspects – Mzukisi Ndamase, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, Aphiwe Ndende, Bonga Hintsa, Mawethu Nomdlembu, and Songezo Vuma – are expected to plead to charges made against them.
The alleged mastermind, Mzukisi Ndamase, is expected to conduct his own defence. The other accused will also tell the court if they have legal representatives and witnesses will take the stand.
The suspects were arrested in different locations in the province, with three in KwaZulu-Natal.
During previous court proceedings, all suspects abandoned their bail, while the alleged master mind who was already a prisoner, Mzukisi Ndamase maintained that he wants to conduct his own defence.
Eight weeks have been set aside for the trial.
