The bus had undergone a safety test in February.

The crash occurred on the northbound lane of the R21 near OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday morning.

“So, what we are picking up is that the bus belongs to the city of Ekurhuleni; it’s a metro bus. It was transporting commuters from Katlehong to Kempton Park, it’s their regular daily routes that they use from Katlehong to Kempton Park. And there’s an indication that there was indeed a small vehicle that could have participated in disrupting the driver as he was driving. And the driver attempted to run away from that particular vehicle, unfortunately he had to hit the side rear and the bus overturned.”
