Traffic volumes remain low along the main routes in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Sindi Msimang says the low traffic volumes could be attributed to the fact that most worshippers and holidaymakers are already at their destinations.
Msimang says, “We are expecting an increase in traffic volumes from tomorrow and Monday.”
Msimang urges drivers to take breaks in between, especially those who are doing long-distance driving, and “we urge them to drive with extra caution”.

Pedestrian fatalities
Meanwhile, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has raised concerns over the rising number of pedestrian fatalities on the roads.
Recent statistics reveal that 45% of road accidents involve pedestrians. This alarming trend comes as many areas experience increased pedestrian activity during the Easter period.
Motorists are urged to reduce their speed and exercise heightened caution, particularly in high-foot-traffic zones.
Pedestrians are also advised to avoid reckless behaviour, to use designated pedestrian bridges when crossing roads, and to wear bright or reflective clothing when walking at night.
