Traffic volumes increase again as holiday season nears the end

Traffic volumes have started increasing on most of the major road networks, including the N4 toll road in Mpumalanga as many are returning back.

Authorities say law enforcement officers are visible on all the roads to ensure compliance.

Over 20,000 summons were issued to motorists for violating traffic laws since the start of December 2024.

Spokesperson for the Department of Community, Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi warned motorists to be cautious on the roads.

Mmusi says traffic volumes are expected to increase throughout the weekend.

“We are expecting traffic to pick up on most of the roads. Remember, some of our roads include the N3 that connects KwaZulu-Natal. We are expecting to continue having pile-ups over the weekend, particularly on Sunday. We also expect the N4 to be very busy from Lebombo eastwards towards the west where most people are going back to work after the end of their holidays,” says Mmusi.
