Traffic officials caught taking bribes during Easter face dismissal

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has warned that it will dismiss traffic officials found to be taking bribes over this coming Easter travel period.

High traffic volumes are expected on all major roads across the country from Thursday.

RTMC Spokesperson Simon Zwane says CEO Makhosini Msibi has also called on traffic officers to make a difference in the country by reducing the number of vehicle road fatalities.

Zwane says he also cautioned that stern action will be taken against those involved in bribery and corruption, among other things.

“The RTMC CEO has called on traffic officers to exercise extreme discipline during the Easter travel period. He said corruption, drunkenness and abuse of firearm will not be tolerated. That those who feel tempted to get involved in corruption will be severely dealt with.”
