Traffic volumes on the R521 from Polokwane to Vivo outside Musina and on the N1 towards Beitbridge Border Post in Limpopo have started building up.
Some motorists going to Beitbridge use the Vivo road as an alternative route to the N1 to Musina.
Limpopo roads carry heavy traffic during this time of year as travellers go to different destinations.
Beitbridge Border Post is the busiest land post in the country.
The Border Management Authority has been using armoured vehicles and drones to monitor the movement of people and the Department of Transport deployed officers at various points on the N1 road in anticipation of traffic increase.
The Department of Transport says 153 road crashes have been reported in Limpopo since the beginning of December.
