Tour operators and hospitality sector stakeholders have expressed concerns about the poor state of some of the tourist sites in Mpumalanga’s Panorama Route.
The bad condition of the road along the route is also a cause of concern.
Panorama Route is the scenic drive through breathtaking natural beauty that includes sites such as the Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, Three Randavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and various waterfalls.
Tourism stakeholders held an engagement aimed at finding ways to address the challenges impacting their businesses and also seize opportunities presented by the sector.
Hazyview business operator Thandiwe Ngomane says they are currently experiencing a decline in their business.
“So now we need to be out there and show ourselves that this is a concern to us and we are the ones losing more than they do, because if your client comes to you with complaints, they are going to address to you that they are not visiting your place because of certain things, for example, we are talking about rest rooms.”
“If we are talking about the roads, if you don’t have the road, you can’t get to the place where you want to go. If you don’t have restrooms, it means I can’t eat, because if I eat, I will not have a place to relieve myself.”
