South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence has become a two-time winner of the Omega European Masters golf tournament at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland – a DP World Tour event.
The 28-year-old Mbombela-born recovered from a nightmare start to post a closing four-under-par 66 and secure a two-shot victory.
Lawrence started the final round with a one-shot lead, but made a bogey-bogey-bogey start to surrender his advantage and fall two behind.
An eagle two at the sixth steadied the ship and he then left the rest of the field in his wake with five more birdies. He finished on 258 – 22-under-par for the tournament to clear of a group of three players that included European Ryder Cup player, Rasmus Hojgaard of Denmark. It’s Lawrence’s fifth career title on the DP World Tour.
