Three suspects have been arrested in connection with an extortion group that has been terrorising community members in Mfuleni on the Cape Flats.
Western Cape Police spokesperson, FC van Wyk says the arrests follow an intelligence-led operation on Friday.
Van Wyk says the group is alleged to be extorting spaza shop and tavern owners and other businesses in the COVID Informal Settlement.
He says it is also operating in Philippi East, Nyanga, Delft and Khayelitsha.
Officers also recovered several firearms and ammunition.
Van Wyk says the suspects are also linked to an armed robbery perpetrated earlier this month in Mfuleni.
The suspects are expected to appear in court tomorrow.
