Three suspects who were arrested for the murder of a 12-year-old Centane boy remain in custody, after making a brief appearance at the Centane Magistrates’ Court in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Siphokazi Mawisa, says the arrest of the suspects aged between 30 and 31, follows the murder of the Nkondwane location boy who was accused of stealing money by the suspects.
It is alleged that the boy was playing football with friends when a man grabbed him, and allegedly beat him up.
“While the boys were still shocked, another boy was also assaulted and accused of stealing money. The boys were forcefully taken to a certain homestead where they were assaulted and set alight. One of the boys managed to extinguish fire and escaped while the other one could not escape,” he says.
Mawisa says the boy was then rushed to Butterworth Hospital and later to Frere Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
“On investigation, police arrested the suspects for murder and (they) appeared in court on Friday, 19 of September 2025. They are remanded in custody to appear again on the 7th of October 2025,” he adds.
