Cows on a farm
The Western Cape Department of Agriculture has placed three properties where cattle are kept under quarantine, for suspected Foot and Mouth disease.
The department’s spokesperson Mary James says the provincial Veterinary Services placed a property in Gouda in the Cape Winelands District under quarantine after animals from the Free State with lesions in their mouths were moved there.
She says samples have been collected and sent for testing.
James says the other two properties with cattle that were placed under quarantine are in Velddrif and Bredasdorp and cattle had been moved there on the 30th of October and are yet to be inspected.
The origin of the potentially infected cattle is still under investigation.
