DNA sampling in the case of the seven-year-old Eastern Cape minor who was allegedly sexually abused at her school’s premises has been conducted.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says there are three people of interest in the investigation.

Mchunu made the announcement in Pretoria where he was briefing the media on the progress in the alleged rape investigation.

The seven-year-old child from Matatiele, in the Eastern Cape was allegedly sexually abused on school premises last year, while waiting for scholar transport.

Mchunu says the first DNA test was done on the child when the matter was first reported.

“DNA testing was done on the victim as per procedure. The outcome was that no foreign DNA could be found on the victim but in the course of time there were three persons of interest who emerged. That then required further DNA testing.”
