A three-month-old baby has died in a collision involving three vehicles on the N2 Kei Cuttings, between East London and Butterworth in the Eastern Cape.
Four other people sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
Provincial Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose says the driver of one of the vehicles allegedly lost control due to a wet and slippery road and collided with two oncoming vehicles.
Binqose has cautioned motorists to be vigilant on the road.
“This was a very tragic accident in which a three-month-old baby sadly lost their life in this accident that happened at the end, too, in the kay cuttings. It was one of many, as weather conditions were less than ideal yesterday. But we are also urging road users, motorists in particular, to be extra vigilant, extra cautious at all times, and ensure that they are safe, especially as the volume of traffic is expected to increase significantly in the Eastern Cape.”
