Credit cards seen on a keyboard
SANParks says three suspects have been arrested on allegations of credit card scamming after targeting tourists near Table Mountain.
Spokesperson JP Louw says the suspects used a fraudulent card device to attempt to scam international tourists.
“The suspects tried withdrawing 4000 pounds but the transaction was cancelled and the tourists also blocked their cards and no money was therefore withdrawn.
Thanks to the quick response from the SEAM team and prompt notification to the Camps Bay CID, the vehicle was flagged and later located by Metro Police in the Green Point area.
The suspects were arrested for driving with false plates and possession of a card scamming device.
No financial losses were incurred by the victims as the attempted transactions were unsuccessful.”
