Three killed in N3 crash near Pietermaritzburg

Three people have died in a collision involving three cars on the N3 between Ashburton and Lion Park near Pietermaritzburg.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says an SUV collided with a truck on the Pietermaritzburg bound carriageway and after the collision, the SUV lost control and veered through the center medium and collided head on with an oncoming truck.

Jamieson says three male occupants from the SUV were declared dead on the scene.

“All three are from one of the vehicles and are currently being cut free using the jaws of life by the Pietermaritzburg Fire Department. One other person has sustained minor injuries and is currently being attended to on scene by paramedics. The N3 on both carriage ways is severely affected and will be for some time to allow the SAPS to do their full investigation)
