Two females and one male have been killed in a horrific crash in the Inkanyezini area, near Lion Park, just outside Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
It is alleged that the driver lost control, collided with the barrier and ended up in the local river.
ALS paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson says, “Brave bystanders entered the flowing river to assist and managed to pull two females from the wreckage and brought them to the river banks. Paramedics assessed the two females, believed to be in their twenties and thirties; however, they showed no signs of life and were declared deceased on the scene.”
Jamieson adds, “The male driver, believed to be in his thirties, was entrapped in the vehicle, which was submerged in the river. SAPS Search and Rescue Units from Pietermaritzburg arrived on the scene and set up a technical Rescue system before entering the water and extracting the driver and then recovering the vehicle. The male was also declared deceased on the scene.”
