Congregants start streaming in at the FNB Stadium for the National Day of Prayer.
Crowds of congregants from different churches are heading to the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, in Johannesburg, ahead of the 2024 National Day of Prayer today.
The prayer day is being hosted by the Motsepe Foundation.
Several roads have been closed off to traffic.
This will be the fourth National Day of Prayer in South Africa.
The first event was held in 2017 and the last prayer day took place in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Day of Prayer is an observance held in many countries worldwide to encourage people of all faiths to pray for their nations. It serves as an opportunity for people to come together in solidarity and reflection, regardless of their different religious beliefs.
Gauteng Traffic Police in the meantime say the Soweto and Golden highways near Nasrec Road and Booysens Road have been closed.

“Drop off and pick up points will be at the showgrounds in Nasrec or at the Rand Show opposite the FN Stadium,” he said.
A night vigil was held on Saturday.
