Thousands take on Iconic 56km Ultra Marathon in Cape Town

The Ultra Marathon in Cape Town has seen the participation of thousands of runners who took on the iconic 56km journey through the Southern Suburbs, False Bay coastline, Chapman’s Peak and Constantia.

The Ultra Marathon is part of the Two Oceans Marathon week which runs over five days, attracting over 30 000 athletes to the Mother City.

General Manager of the Two Oceans Marathon, Wayde Bramfeild, says the marathon is a big achievement to those who take part.

“Given the distance, the history and the legacy, similar to other events like the comrades to run 56km it takes sexopaths. It takes training and its an accomplishment, especially with the elements within the event like the Blue Number Club where recognitions are given to runners that run each respective distance more than 10 times,” he says.

Bramfeild says they are welcoming just over 1 500 runners that have run the event more than 10 times.

“They have their own special space, the Blue Number Club. But outside of that everyone is just trying to be part of this incredible legacy and heritage event of 55 years of running pedigree in South Africa. Its something truly special and its not something that you can just achieve,” he adds.
