The Acting Minister of Police, Professor Firoz Cachalia, delivered the welcoming address at the Union Buildings where 27 members who died in the line of duty, are being honoured.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia says the loss of a police officer is not only a loss to their loved one, their colleagues, or their community, but it is also a loss to the entire nation.
He was speaking at the annual South African Police Service Commemoration Day at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
Twenty-seven police officers who died in the line of duty between April last year and March this year are being remembered and honoured for their bravery and courage.
Cachalia has urged police officers to stay vigilant as they carry out their duties.
“Each year, on the first Sunday of September, we remember our brave men and women who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty and today, we pay tribute to the 27 police officers who lost their lives in the past financial year. Their names will now be forever engraved on the honour roll behind us, not merely as names carved in stone, but as powerful reminders of courage, sacrifice, and service to the nation.”
