Some councillors in the Thabazimbi Municipality say there is infighting over the control of a multi-million-rand project.
MKP councillor, Bosney Mashao says the conflict is between the mayor, ANC councillor Tumisang Pilane, the Municipal Manager, Clement Letsoalo and the DA councillor and Speaker, Tokkie Swanepoel.
Mashao says the conflict emanated from the R38-million project to pave the streets. The Mayor and the Municipal Manager have differences over preferred service providers for the project.
A service provider for the project approved by Letsoalo has already begun working.
Mashao says the conflict is causing division and stalling service delivery.
“There are still conflicts that cause the instability in our municipality. There is a conflict between the Mayor and the MM who is now on the side of the speaker. The administration is very bad in terms of dealing with communities. The basic services like wastewater collection are very rare.”
The municipality has not yet commented on the issue.
Meanwhile, residents say they don’t receive services due to infighting in the municipality. They say they are experiencing similar problems that led to the dissolution of the council and by-elections last year,
“There is a big problem more than the last big problem, no service delivery, no council meetings. They don’t help the community; the community is continuing to suffer over water.”
Meanwhile, three by-elections held in Thabazimbi, the last one as recently as seven months ago, have produced hung councils, with none of the political parties obtaining enough of a majority, 50 plus one percent to represent the community.
