1 minute

The Tembe Council of Churches in KwaNgwanase near KwaMhlabuyalingana in northern KwaZulu-Natal will today lead a peaceful march at the iThala Centre in Manguzi.

The aim of the march is to highlight the plight of local communities and businesses following the closure of Ithala Bank.

Various political parties and civil society organisations are calling for the resumption of banking services at Ithala.

“We are going to plea with the government and Ithala authorities. We are just going to stage a walk for a prayer at Ithala Centre just to express our outcry, to represent the community in the outcry because of the closure of Ithala. Many of the services have been stopped, so we are just going to express the voice of the community to say ‘open Ithala Bank, do something government, you can do it’, that’s our belief,” says the council’s chairperson Mthandeni Tembe.
