Teenage boy missing following drowning at Pennington Beach

A teenager remains missing following a drowning at Pennington Beach on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

In a statement, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says it is believed that four teenage boys were swimming when they were swept out to sea in rip currents.

Several search and rescue teams were activated including the KwaZulu-Natal Surf Rescue Network, NSRI rescue swimmers, the South African Police Services and Police K9 Search and Rescue unit.

Three teenagers were rescued by a 16-year-old local male who was at the beach with family and friends.

Police K9 Search and Rescue are continuing the search for the missing boy.
