Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says Eskom technical teams are hard at work to return lost units to the grid. He says he is optimistic that the latest round of load shedding will soon be a thing of the past.
The country is currently experiencing Stage 2 of load shedding attributed to losses in units at the Majuba, Camden and Ankerlig power stations.
Ramokgopa gave an update at a deep dive session in Johannesburg on the country’s G20 Energy Transition Work Group in Johannesburg and its priorities.
“It was a major outlier. We fixed those units that failed at Majuba, now they are back with us, three of their four units that failed at Camden are back with us and also Ankerlig, the diesel levels now, it’s about 66%, we’re waiting to go to 70%. We had promised, we’ll keep on bringing it down and then we are going to have a review later in the evening and then we’ll announce going forward. One of the things that I want to say to the general public is that we will ensure that we keep the lights on. I think that’s very important for the South African economy.”
