Chiefs players during a match
The 2024-2025 Nedbank Cup last 16 clashes are under way, with the heavyweight clubs playing this weekend.
Chiefs have on paper, the toughest tie of the three giant clubs, as they lock horns with Chippa United at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening.
Though they beat Chippa 1-nil in their most recent meeting, they have endured a season of inconsistent results.
Chiefs coach Nasreddin Nabi says consistency will bring joy to the Amakhosi faithful.
“It’s true that we have noticed the joy and happiness that this club brings to the South Africans. It’s incredible and unbelievable, that’s why there is no sleep when there are no results. You feel responsible for millions of people around the country. That is why we are doing everything to build a strong team that will give the joy that we saw last Friday, consistently, throughout the year, throughout the competition we are going to play and we don’t want to play for results that will come today and come back in two months. We want to have the responsible to build a good team that will bring joy every week, in and out,” says Nabi.
Orlando Pirates will host Baroka FC, while Mamelodi Sundowns will host Mpheni Home Defenders.
“As Orlando Pirates, we faced teams from the first division, from the third division, in the three years we had in the cup. Usually you will face a special team with a special game plan and extra motivation. It’s a big day for both teams especially for Baroka,” says Pirates’ coach Jose Riveiro.
“It’s our job to not allow that dream to become a true goal, we have to focus on what we have to do in the match and face it in more serious way. We need to worry about what we have to do in every moment on the pitch and then control the match with the results that we should achieve of course,” says Sundowns’ coach Miguel Cardoso.
