Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge and others at the tribunal
The Judicial Conduct Tribunal probing sexual harassment allegations against Eastern Cape Judge President Selby Mbenenge has heard that it is possible to tamper with CCTV footage once it is downloaded off the system.
This was revealed by Director of Facilities and Security Management at the Office of the Chief Justice, Prabagaran Naidoo.
Naidoo is the latest witness to be called to the stand. He testified on CCTV footage of the Mthatha High Court relating to allegations of in-person interactions between Judges’ Secretary Andiswa Mengo and Mbenenge.
Mengo alleges the interactions took place either on the 14th or the 15th of November 2022. Naidoo said, however, he did not receive footage from the 15th, prompting questions from evidence leader, Advocate Salome Scheepers.
“For the footage to be downloaded from the system to be uploaded on the memory stick as you received is it possible to tamper with the footage?”
Naidoo: “I think it is possible to tamper with the footage because once the footage is downloaded off the system, when it’s on the system, it is perfectly safe because you need administrator credentials to access the live recordings but once it’s on the hard drive itself, where it’s being prepared to be placed onto the USB, you can tamper with that footage because it becomes raw footage”
