Talks to end FlySafair, Solidarity wage impasse resume

Wage talks under the facilitation of the Commission of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to bring to an end strike action by FlySafair pilots will resume this afternoon.

FlySafair and trade union Solidarity met at the union’s office on Wednesday for hours until late in the night as the two try to find each other.

The pilots are demanding a 10.5% salary increase and a revised rostering for the workers, while the employer is offering 5.7%.

It’s been almost a week of industrial action by the pilots.

Several flights were cancelled earlier this week, leaving travel plans up in the air and passengers frustrated.

The airline has reduced its operations by at least 30% and is getting help from South African Airways in the interim.

Talks this afternoon under the facilitation of the CCMA are a last ditch attempt to bring the parties together with the hope that the strike action will be called off soon.
